The ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ will be held on Tuesday 30 January at Hamptons Sports and Leisure Meeting Room, Great Baddow. The day aims to help people from mid Essex who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the last few years, or those who have lived with the condition for longer and are looking for extra support and updated guidance.

The event will provide essential information needed to live well with Type 2 diabetes, a serious, lifelong condition which can be treated with diet, exercise, medication and/or insulin.

Brioni Maker, Diabetes UK Eastern Improving Care Manager, said: “There are more than 17,000 people living with Type 2 diabetes in the Mid Essex CCG area and we know that being recently diagnosed can have a life-changing effect on people.

“There is a lot of information to take in, particularly at the time of diagnosis, so this event is a great way to get detailed expert advice in an easy-to-digest way.

“We hope the ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ will give people in the area the confidence they need to live well as well as the opportunity to meet other people living with the condition.”

Healthcare professionals will talk about local healthcare and the services available to people with Type 2 diabetes in the area. They will also advise on some simple steps to better manage the condition and reduce their risk of suffering from diabetes related complications, such as heart disease, kidney failure, stroke, amputation and blindness.

Dr Ahmed Mayet, the CCG Clinical Lead, who will be speaking at/attending the event, said: “In my 15-year experience it has become clear that people with very good knowledge of diabetes have demonstrated exemplary control of their condition and achieved better outcomes, with fewer complications. This is why I strongly recommend that our patients attend these sorts of support events.”
