As part of NHS Mid Essex CCG’s 12 Days of Christmas Care campaign, today we are highlighting the help availiable if it all feels too much this Christmas.
Every year, four out of 10 people in the UK experience common psychological problems, such as depression, stress, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders.
Christmas and New Year can be stressful for many people but help is at hand if it all begins to feel overwhelming.
People aged 17 and above registered with a mid Essex GP can access psychological therapies via IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies).
IAPT provides a wide range of talking therapy treatments for adults with common mental health problems including; mood problems (i.e. depression), anxiety (i.e. panic attacks), post-traumatic stress disorder and long term conditions. Treatment sessions may be by phone, online, in groups or face-to-face. Our primary treatment options are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is a structured therapy where you will set goals you want to reach and work on changes you can make to patterns of thoughts and behaviours to help you attain your goals.
If you think you would benefit, you can refer to IAPT by using one of the following options:
- Refer online via our secure e-form
- Pick-up a self-referral form from your GP surgery or ask your GP to make a referral
- Call Mid Essex IAPT service on 01376 308704 or 01376 308705.
IAPT cannot provide immediate support in an emergency. If you require urgent mental health help, please call your GP or the NEP Crisis Line on 0330 726 0130.
