Ofsted and CQC joint inspection of Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) services

Education watchdog Ofsted and healthcare watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are about to begin a joint inspection of the Essex local area's effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of, and improving outcomes for, children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The inspection runs from Monday 30 September 2019 to Friday 4 October 2019 and local parents and carers of children with SEND should already have received a letter about it from their school. In case you have not, you can offer your own view on SEND services for children and young people in a number of ways.

1.The inspection will include an online recorded webinar to allow Essex’s parents and carers of children with SEND to contribute. The webinar will take place from noon on Monday 23 September until 11:59pm on Tuesday 1 October.   1. Parents and carers can contact their local Parent Carer Forum to request details of how they can attend the discussions held between parents and carers and the Ofsted/CQC inspection team. The local authority must also provide the details of this meeting.

  1. Details about the local area SEND inspection will be available on your local authority’s website as well as being distributed through local Clinical Commissioning Groups. Information about how children and young people with SEND can share their views about the local area’s effectiveness should be included in the Essex Local Offer.
