Right treatment, right place, right time

The Referral Support Service (RSS) supports each patient after a GP referral to routine hospital care, right up to their first outpatient appointment. We aim to improve patient choice by offering appointments at a number of locations and over a range of dates and times.

Our administrative team uses the electronic referral system "e-Referral Service" to book appointments. Both GPs and patients can phone the RSS for help with any queries.

Because the RSS keeps an eye on all the services available, we can offer our patients tailored, local care without them always having to go to hospital. The RSS contacts patients directly about appointments, enabling mid Essex GPs to spend more of their time supporting the people who need their care the most.

Your Responsibility

We encourage patients to be involved in their care and will always try to include you in the booking service. Please make sure you are available to attend appointments when they are confirmed. If you are unable to keep an appointment please call the hospital at your earliest convenience to rebook.

Please note that referrals are made by a patient’s GP or clinician – self-referral is not available..
